she got sole flyer

On October 27th, in honour of Women’s History Month in Canada, Toronto Loves Kicks (TLK) teamed up with the Bata Shoe Museum, Dove and Nike to bring our City the first annual “She Got Sole” (SGS) event. This TLK initiative was an opportunity to unite “Soles” with one purpose in mind; to empower young women.

A number of young women from all over Toronto and across several schools boards, came together to share their experiences and concerns about transitioning into womanhood. The girls attended a series of workshops throughout the day that were high energy and extremely interactive. They had the opportunity to discuss everything from the importance of staying fit and having a healthy diet to understanding how important relationships are as they move forward in their lives. The Dove Self-Esteem Team did an amazing job getting the groups to critically think about the messages and pressures the media puts on young people today.

The response was overwhelming from all that attended. The consensus of the day was that…”It was great to empower young women, and give them an experience that they may not have had otherwise”. The event was a major success on many different levels and is something that Toronto Loves Kicks is extremely proud to say that we brought to our City. We look forward to doing it again next year and to empowering a new set of fresh minds.

We would like to send a special thank you to all the schools that participated in making this possible, Intel Swagger, The Dove Self-Esteem Team, Alisha Tatham (Nike), Mika and Falak from OSIE, Julez and all the volunteers that made the day one to remember.

Check out how the day unfolded below and keep letting Toronto Loves Kicks touch your SOLE!
